Ithaca College therapeutic recreation students are hosting a Depressed Cake Shop pop-up event at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County in Ithaca, New York, on Sunday, April 28, from noon-4 p.m. Students will be selling baked goods donated by local bakeries and businesses. All proceeds will be donated to Ithaca Suicide Prevention and Crisis Service.
The sale, which also includes face painting and the opportunity to learn about decreasing the negative stigma sometimes associated with mental health issues, will take place immediately following the Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Duck Race.
The Depressed Cake Shop is a unique platform designed to raise awareness of mental health challenges. It facilitiates pop-ups worldwide that sell highly customized baked goods as a way to get people talking about mental illness.
